  1. World Lion Day is annually observed on 10 August, people to increase understanding about the conservation and safeguarding of lions and highlights the threats faced by the lion population across the world.
  2. World Bio-Fuel Day is annually observed on 10 August to create awareness about the importance of non-fossil fuels or bio-fuels as an alternative to conventional fossil fuels for the energy sector and to highlight the various efforts made by the Government in the biofuel sector.  
  3. On 8 August 2023, Justice Subhasis Talapatra, Judge of the Orissa High Court, took oath as the 33rd Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.
  4. Indian-origin Vaibhav Taneja has been named Tesla’s new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in addition to his current role as Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) of the US-based electric car major.
  5. The Geographical Indications Registry in Chennai has recently granted Geographical Indication (GI) tags to seven products from different regions of India, including four traditional crafts from Rajasthan. The products awarded the GI tags are ‘Jalesar Dhatu Shilp’ (a metal craft), ‘Goa Mankurad Mango’, ‘Goan Bebinca’, ‘Udaipur Koftgari Metal Craft’, ‘Bikaner Kashidakari Craft’, ‘Jodhpur Bandhej Craft’ and ‘Bikaner Usta Kala Craft’.
  6. Bedabrate Bharali won the Gold medal in the men’s youth 67kg category at the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championship 2023.
  7. Rajasthan Government recently approved a proposal to form 19 new districts and three new divisions with the purpose of improving governance and decentralizing administrative functions. As of now, Rajasthan has 50 districts and 10 divisions, earlier it had 33 districts and 7 divisions.
  8. Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India introduced a new Ayush (AY) visa for foreign nationals for treatment under Ayush systems/Indian systems of medicine like therapeutic care, wellness and Yoga.
  9. According to a notification issued by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on 31 July, 2023, the production, sale, and distribution of ‘ketoprofen’ and ‘aceclofenac’, along with their formulations, for animal use is prohibited under section 26A of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 (23 of 40).
  10. Smita Sawant launched the book ‘Kailash Mansarovar Yatra: A Spell Binding Pilgrimage’, which gives an extraordinary adventure through the sacred land of Kailash Manasarovar, where spirituality and nature converge.
  11. The Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) unveiled a recent publication titled “75 Endemic Birds of India” on the occasion of its 108th foundation day which highlights a surprising fact that a remarkable 5% of India’s bird species are confined solely within the nation’s boundaries, making them true avian treasures that are not reported anywhere else on the planet.
  12. Vice Admiral Sameer Saxena has taken over as the Chief of Staff, Eastern Naval Command, from Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan in Visakhapatnam on 1 August, 2023.
  13. Devari village in Prayagraj, which is known for its colorful and mesmerizing handmade bamboo and pottery products, will be developed as a village tourism hub.
  14. India’s first beauty and Lifestyle festival NYKAALAND will be hosted in Mumbai from 4-5 November, 2023.
  15. Indian Navy’s indigenously built destroyer, INS Visakhapatnam arrived in Oman’s Muscat, to strengthen the maritime cooperation between the Indian Navy and Royal Oman Navy.
  16. Brazilian supercentenarian, Jose Paulino Gomes, touted as world’s oldest man, passed away at the age of 127.
